Nicole Ari Parker is an American stage and film actor who was famous for her portrayal as the spirited attorney Teri Joseph in the Showtime series Soul Food. Nikki Kodjoe is her new name after she married. From the time she was a child, Nikki Kodjoe was a natural actor. At the Maryland competition for students in high school, she was awarded the prize for the Best Actress. Following her time in the theater and 'The Washington Ballet Company she earned a diploma in acting at 'New York University. The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love was her first big role. The family was born in Mumbai, India and raised in Nigeria until 7 years old, Contractor was well-versed in traveling around the globe and in a wide range of cultures at a very young age. She was educated in a boarding-school in London between the ages of 7 and 9. Later, her family relocated from London and moved to Toronto, Canada. Contractor was a wonderful student in Toronto and was educated to become a classical ballet dancer. In the Etobicoke School of the Arts (a public high school that specializes in the arts) the student studied ballet and theater. Contractor started acting at the age of 16 and was a part of the theater for a decade after spending ten years of dancing. As soon as she finished her high school education, she was awarded an entire scholarship to University of Toronto. At the University of Toronto she completed the Master of Arts in Theatre. She was also a double major in sociology and psychology. Contractor was offered the lead part in Pericles after a one-year stint in University. The audition was held for the role at Stratford Shakespeare Festival (Ontario Canada) and was awarded. The play was well-received in the 92 plays she appeared in. She won the award in 2002 for the Best Production of the Year, as judged by Canadian critics. The conservatory in Stratford takes eight people, four women along with a couple of other people for a 20 week crash course. Contractor received a guaranteed place for the next season and was given the role as Hermia.
